Somehow, I started thinking a lot about my future recently, or more specifically, after receiving our promos grades. It occurred to me that I used to be so certain which areas I want to pursue..but now no longer. Not because I've lost interest, but because circumstances in reality poses serious obstacles, which have to be dealt with NOW or the possibilities are gone FOREVER. Okay, maybe not forever forever, but kinda forever. Because once you settle in a field, it's unlikely for you to change field mid-career. Especially since my DISC score showed that I'm a D-S. Not sure if it applies still, since I took it when I was Sec 3, but if it is still remotely accurate, then I would value steadiness, which most probably means that I am not adventurous enough to change field halfway. So yes, if I want to do what I want/like to do, I've got to start thinking now.
Why do I say that present circumstances have posed serious obstacles for the various career paths I've been thinking about? These career directions have been in my thoughts for the past...5 - 6 years! Why didn't I discover these obstacles earlier? Because, things haven't been going according to my plans.
For starters, I did not take art in JC. This means, the design route and other related routes are probably out of the equation. That is probably fixed, and I've kinda given up on the idea. There's computer science (or engineering...although I doubt I'd do engineering), which at least my mum vaguely approves of. But, procrastination have been my flaw. The first time I said I'm going to learn PHP was in Sec 2? Fast forward to the end of JC1, and I still haven't learn it. The freshmen for computer science probably knows more than one programming languages, not net-based, but real programming languages like C or C++. I'm like no where near.
And then, there's business.
Frankly speaking, the only attraction business have, is that it is easy, and Sammie's probably gonna go that direction. But those are not good reasons for choosing a career path...
And hospitality...Same thing goes here. Easy, and higher possibility of Sammie going into it. Plus it's kinda interesting.
But these two are like back-up plans if all else goes wrong?
Or maybe film. But that will mean serious clashes with mum.
The thing is, the best option now would be computer science or similar, since I've already given up on design, and that's like the only option I'm interested in and my mum remotely approves of. But I only have slightly over an year left? Not to mention I have to put all my energy into A levels first before anything else. Rawr.
So, it ends with either computer science (if I'm able to make time to learn everything I should, on top of my A levels), or film (which would mean serious clashes with mum, and possibly with dad too...not to mention weird looks from relatives in the future).
--------------------
Kinda dug out stuff from NTU, IDA, firefly and SMU last night. All collected during various fairs, and RJC's scholarship day last year (having no O levels meant that I had the time to go all these places last year). The business path is seriously non-appealing to me. >.<
ESFP - "Entertainer". Radiates attractive warmth and optimism. Smooth, witty, charming, clever. Fun to be with. Very generous. 8.5% of the total population. |
Free Jung Personality Test (similar to Myers-Briggs/MBTI)And according to the website the guide gave us, here's the description.
ESFP Extraverted Sensing with Feeling
ESFP types have fun. They like to live life to its fullest and are great company. Good natured and openly friendly, they are very curious about what they can see, hear, and know firsthand. They then find ways to adapt to what they've noticed, and are good at getting others to adapt too.
Choosing a Major- Tend to try alternatives and remain open to change
- Prefer a job dealing directly and flexibly with people
- Often found in health fields, sales, design, entertainment, transportation, or troubleshooting
Learning Style- Can remember a great number of facts and events
- Prefer first-hand experience rather than books or lectures
- Usually do better in actual situations rather than on written tests
- May experience difficulty in classrooms because few college instructors are their type
- Learn and solve problems best through trial and error
Reading, Writing, Studying- Prefer to study with others and with external stimulation
- May need to learn that test taking often requires trusting their hunches and reading between the lines
- Report they spend no time in non-required serious reading
- Write best by first talking out the facts they know
- Need to revise final drafts by making the language less conversational and shortening their paragraphs
Playing - Like to engage in physical exercise
- Roommates may find them fun, enthusiastic, and adaptable
- Report no trouble dating once a week or more
- Having fun is important
Possible Causes of Stress- Bored by too much focus on theories in the classroom
- May be concerned about close relationships
- May socialize too much
- May jump into action before carefully evaluating options
- May neglect studies if they are having too much fun in campus activities
Dealing with Stress- Natural openness and flexibility helps avoid stress
- Usually have a lot of friends to turn to
- Clever at adapting existing rules to get around roadblocks
- May need to study with others who can help them get organized and focused
- May need to learn to follow through
Pretty accurate I suppose. Just cut out the entire Reading, Writing, Studying section (with the exception of first point), and cut out the point on "Like to engage in physical exercise". (I like exercises...but only at times. OCCASIONALLY.)
Although, I vaguely remember I was an INFP? nvm...maybe I changed too much.
So, now what...*flips the guide to next page*

Great. Just when I gave up on designing. And computer science is sooo not on the list. Rawr. This is so not helpful. Great.
Although Film seems pretty in line with the list....but nope. I need to try avoid that. I can do film AFTER I've settled into something.
I think I got to go meet the career counselor or something.
[EDIT:12.53PM] from another link the guide gave me...
hmm...maybe i'll go back to web designer or editor...BUT. that still feels weird. I don't really know what to study for uni. haha. I still gotta meet the career counselor. First things first though...get my grades up.
